Alexandra Gardner was born in 1945, and she studied from 1963 at Glasgow School of Art under the close tutelage of the Head of School, David Donaldson. As soon as she qualified, David offered her a teaching and lecturing post within the school and Alexandra, or Sandie as she prefers, remained as a lecturer at GSA for 21 years. She is recognised as one of Scotland’s most accomplished painters and is highly sought after by galleries and collectors alike. Her strong foundation of brilliant draughtsmanship supports her skilful and well composed still life works, beautifully crafted figurative pieces and original landscapes – most of her paintings are something of a statement! Alexandra's work appears in many prestigious collections including Glasgow Art Gallery and Museum; The Fine Art Society; Gothenburg Education Authority; Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh; The Fleming-Wyfold Art Foundation, London; Royal Bank of Scotland collection, to name but a few.
