Hugh Cushing

Hugh Cushing has a truly diverse portfolio; perhaps a result of his incredibly varied career. Through working in architecture, art directing, illustration and painting, Hugh's different job roles have allowed him to live in some fascinating countries all over the world and to meet so many interesting people. His enthusiasm for travel has seen Hugh work on the design of Expo '67 in Montreal as well as set up his studio in Toronto and move to France on a sabbatical. It was his time in France that allowed him to embrace painting. A gallery in Clermont picked up his work and gave him the opportunity to exhibit. The success of this show encouraged Hugh to stay in France and continue to sell his artwork. He was then lucky enough to gain some artwork commissions in New Zealand and fell in love with the place. When Hugh isn't painting in Europe, he can be found working in Auckland. His boat paintings are the perfect blend of colour and texture for that striking wall art statement.
