Stiffener Boards Going Green (24/09/2010)

Pyramid International is transferring all of the white board used to stiffen many of their products to a brown backing board. This will affect any of their pre-packaged products, from Art Prints to Slim Posters and 3D Lenticulars.

The reason for this change is twofold:
Firstly, the production of the brown board is far more energy efficient.
The production of the white board involves both a mineral coating, which aids any printing, and a colouring process. This pigment and coating are unnecessary and are a wasteful use of energy.

Secondly, a Brown board is far easier to recycle.
The mineral coating and pigment used in the white board have to be eliminated from the waste streams before reusing the board pulps. By using a board that does not contain these we can reduce the energy required during the recycling process.

Pyramid International will strive to increase the energy efficiency of all their production methods, in an effort to become more economical and reduce their carbon footprint.
