Ahmed Sirry was born and raised in Egypt until the age of ten when his parents decided to immigrate to Canada. Life as a child in Cairo was often enchanting and mystical. Ahmed revisited almost forty years later and photographed through the eyes of the present and memories of the past. The camera was picked up in earnest during the mid-nineties and has rarely been put down since. It started with photographing the natural beauty of Ontario and studio studies of flora, particularly roses. In time, subject matter had extended to portraits and the fashion scene. “Influences are varied and unpredictable, and could come in various forms and intensities. A tune, a smile, a scent, a feeling or an attitude. I’m still amazed how that little box, the camera, can contain unlimited magic and that the photographic process itself has not lost its unique and sublime lustre.”
