Ben Allen is a self-taught artist who finds inspiration in the everyday life that surrounds us on the streets and buildings, in textures found in the rusting metals and corroded weather-swept posters of the streets and billboards and the peeling and fading layers that create a new, unpredicted image. These notions bear comparison to Ben’s technique, as his works are largely unplanned. He describes his work as a visual ether of thought and suggestion, a silent dialogue of past, present and future. Ben works in a wide variety of media and materials, and his style is influenced by comic book art, Japanese graphics, skateboard culture, surfing, travel, the Mexican festival “Dia de la Muerte”, the human condition, typography and nature.
